My Approach
The Art of Weaving: How We Heal
At Woven Hearts Counseling, we believe therapy should match the client’s needs versus conforming the client to the therapeutic approach. We’ve stitched together four evidence-based practices and four pillars of service to provide the care you need, in the way you need it.
“Her life was a tapestry woven together with stories of joy and sadness moments of pain but also hope— and within those threads of life she created herself in every stitch of colored string.”
Honoring Your Story (Narrative Therapy): We begin by looking at the chapters of your life. Often, the problems we face try to write our story for us. Using Narrative Therapy, we externalize those challenges, reclaiming your voice and rediscovering the strengths that have been there all along.
Healing the Heart (Emotionally Focused Therapy - EFT): We are hardwired for connection. Using the gold standard of couples and individual therapy, we explore the patterns in your relationships. We work to shift from "protection" to "connection," building a secure base where you feel truly seen and safe.
Processing the Past (EMDR): Sometimes, talk therapy isn't enough because trauma is stored in the body and the nervous system. EMDR allows us to process painful memories so they no longer "fire" in the present, moving them from a distressing "now" to a peaceful "then."
Embracing the Present (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy - ACT): Healing isn't just about looking back; it’s about moving forward. Using ACT, we practice mindfulness to stay present and clarify your deepest values. We focus on taking "committed action" toward a life that feels meaningful, even in the midst of pain or difficult transitions.
Together, we mend the frayed threads and weave a narrative that reflects your resilience and your future.
At Woven Hearts Counseling, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We weave together evidence-based modalities—including EMDR, ACT, EFT, and Narrative Therapy—to address the specific "frayed threads" in your life.
Chronic Illness & Medical Trauma Support
Finding "Chronic Courage" in a life changed by diagnosis. Living with an invisible illness like CKD, autoimmune disease, or chronic pain is an emotional marathon. I provide a specialized, "spoon-friendly" space where you don’t have to explain your fatigue. We address the medical trauma, grief, and "medical gaslighting" that often accompany a diagnosis.
Best for: The "Spoonie" community, Renal/CKD support, autoimmune struggles, and processing hospital-based trauma.
The Approach: We use ACT to find meaning on high-symptom days and EMDR to process the distress of medical procedures or life-altering health shifts.
Life Transitions & Identity Redesign
Navigating change and re-authoring your next chapter. Life rarely moves in a straight line. Major shifts—like a career pivot, an empty nest, a relationship change, or entering a new stage of adulthood—force us to ask a heavy question: "Who am I now that everything has changed?" I help individuals navigate the anxiety and grief of these shifts, allowing you to reclaim your agency and design your next chapter with intention.
Best for: Career burnout/pivots, empty-nest adjustments, relationship status changes, and navigating the "messy middle" of life transitions.
The Approach: We use Narrative Therapy to deconstruct old stories of "obligation" and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to clarify your current values and move forward.
Relational Trauma & Attachment Healing
Healing the past to find safety in the present. If you grew up with neglect, or if you’ve experienced the "shattering" of a primary relationship, your nervous system may stay in a state of high alert. We work together to move beyond just "talking" about the past and toward actually rewiring your sense of security and building a "secure base" within yourself.
Best for: Childhood emotional neglect, "people-pleasing," betrayal trauma, and persistent feelings of "not being enough."
The Approach: We use EMDR to process traumatic memories and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) to understand and shift your attachment patterns.
Relationship & Couples Support
Mending frayed connections and re-authoring your shared story. Relationships are our primary source of safety, but life transitions—like a medical diagnosis, an empty nest, or a breach of trust—can strain those bonds. I help couples move from "protection" to "connection," creating a space where both partners feel truly seen, heard, and supported.
Best for: Couples navigating chronic illness, parents in the "messy middle," and partners recovering from a breach of trust or emotional distance.
The Approach: Using the "gold standard" of EFT, we identify the negative cycles that keep you disconnected and build new, secure pathways to intimacy.
