Life Transitions & Identity
Re-Authoring
Navigating the Messy Middle and Writing Your Next Chapter
Life rarely follows a perfectly linear script. Major milestones—a total career pivot, an empty nest, a relationship status change, or adjusting to a new developmental stage of adulthood—frequently pull the rug out from under us. Suddenly, the roles that used to define you no longer fit, leaving you standing squarely in the "messy middle."
During these seasons, a quiet, heavy question tends to take root: “Who am I now that everything has changed?”
Feeling lost, anxious, or mournful during a major life transition doesn't mean you are failing; it means you are actively outgrowing your previous chapter. Identity Redesign is the collaborative, intentional process of pausing, taking inventory of your current values, and deciding exactly what you want your next pages to look like.
The Method: How We Heal
We approach life transitions not as problems to be fixed, but as threshold moments to be navigated with agency, clarity, and purpose.
Narrative Therapy: As a former journalist, I view your life as a living, evolving story. We look closely at the chapters written for you by family or societal expectations, and work to deconstruct them so you can become the primary author of your future.
Values Clarification: When life shifts, your values often shift too. We use structured exercises to pinpoint what matters to you today—whether that means redefining your relationship to work, adjusting to a changing family dynamic, or stepping into your personal power.
Managing Transition Anxiety: We build concrete emotional grounding tools to help you tolerate the discomfort of the unknown as you step away from the old outline and begin sketching the new one.
